Artist's Statement

When painting, I try to connect with a place, be in the moment and reach a creative state. I attempt to portray a unique point of view filtered by an emotional response to the surroundings. I paint what I feel as well as what I see. One of my main goals is to create paintings that allow the viewer and myself to perceive reality, even for a brief moment, beyond the static version we have been conditioned to accept.

The act of painting goes back a long way. It’s a thrill to connect to this history. I’m particularly inspired by artists who painted representationally and at the same time had an equal passion for the abstract principles of painting. This is something I strive for in my own work.

Russian, French and American Impressionist painters are of great interest to me. These artists often painted from everyday subject matter. Personally, I find hope for the future in the modest activities of everyday life.

Thank you for taking a few moments out of your day to look at my paintings. In this fast paced and quickly evolving world, I believe that there is still much to be learned through this traditional medium.
